Amulya Patnaik inaugurated the fifth season of Road Safety Awareness Summer Camp at Traffic Training Park, Baba Kharak Singh Marg today. The summer camp is being organized by Delhi Traffic Police with the support and cooperation of corporate houses such as IGL, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd. (HMSI), Hero Motocorp, SIAM and NGO Synergie. The objective behind organizing the summer camp is to help children utilize their summer vacation in a meaningful way and to enable them to learn traffic rules & regulations and some life skills in an enjoyable manner which will have a bearing on their career and life. The summer camp will be a two weeks programme. It will be organized in two batches, each of five days duration (Monday to Friday) at its five locations i.e. Traffic Training Parks located at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Bal Bhawan, Punjabi Bagh, Roshanara Bagh and Dev Samaj School, Nehru Nagar. Each batch will have strength of approx. 200-250 students. The course contents of the summer camp have been designed in such a manner, so as to inculcate road safety habits in the students which in turn will help them become sensible, sensitive and responsible road users. During the course of summer camp, various stakeholders will involve the participants in some major activities as training in manual drill, teachings on traffic rules, road safety norms, road signs & signals markings, demos on self-defense techniques, First-Aid skills, training on disaster management techniques of management & fire safety tactics and safe riding tips. NGO Synergie will arrange Road Safety outdoor games & brain games, while Road Safety Cell staff will organize visits to nearby intersections, in coordination with Traffic staff. It is purely free of cost and the participating students will be provided with goodie bags, road safety literatures, T-shirts, Caps and daily refreshments. Many competitions will be organized during the camp and there will be awards for the winners. Speaking on the occasion Sh. Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, called upon the students to be disciplined in their life for their own individual strength and for the sake of building up a strong nation. He underlined that children are the best instruments of society, as they see, learn and follow good habits and also tell their parents to follow the rules and become good citizens. He commended the efforts of field formations, especially Traffic personnel, who brave extreme weather conditions to keep the city well-regulated and keep it going in view of ever increasing volume of vehicles. He appreciated the role of Road Safety Cell, the educational wing of Delhi Traffic Police in sensitizing people about the importance of obeying traffic rules and guiding children to grow up into good road users. The CP/Delhi also complemented the role of stakeholders i.e. IGL, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd. (HMSI), Hero Motocorp, SIAM and Synergie for taking extra pains for creating facilities. Sh. Taj Hassan, Spl. CP/Traffic, Sh. R S Krishnia, Spl. CP/L&O(South), Ms. Meenu Chaudhary, Jt.CP/Traffic, Sh. K Jegadesan, Jt.CP/Traffic, Sh. Anand Mohan, Jt. CP/NDR, other senior officers and representatives of stakeholders also graced the occasion.
