(SECI) have agreed to cooperate for implementation of rooftop solar energy systems on Delhi Police Establishments by signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU). Signing of MOU to this effect took place at Delhi Police Headquarters on 03-07-2019 afternoon between Shri J.N. Swain, IAS, MD, SECI and Shri Rajesh Malik, IPS, Spl. CP/GA & P&I in the presence of Shri Anand Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy Sources (MNRE), Govt. of India and Shri Amulya Patnaik, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Delhi. Senior Officials of MNRE, SECI and Delhi Police were also present on this momentous occasion. Solar Energy is economical as well as environmental friendly. Rooftop solar systems have their added advantages. Besides utilizing the otherwise vacant space, the solar energy generated is utilized at the location of generation itself, hence neutralizing transmission and distribution losses. Through this MOU, SECI will support Delhi Police in implementation of grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic systems on their buildings. Delhi Police has approx. more than 200 number of establishments spread across the Capital and their electricity requirements are quite significant. Delhi Police intends to utilize vacant roofs of their buildings to harness solar energy and to cater part of their electricity demand through the generated green energy. In addition to this, it would result in significant reduction on electricity Bill payments of Delhi Police. SECI is a PSU under Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and is the Government of India’s nodal agency for implementation of the national Solar Mission. SECI has played a pivotal role in increasing the solar capacity in the country and reducing the cost of solar energy. SECI has been at the forefront in implementation of MNRE’s grid-connected rooftop solar schemes. More than 365 MW rooftop solar systems, spread over more than 4000 buildings have been commissioned under SECI’s scheme, making SECI the largest facilitator in India’s rooftop solar program. On this occasion, Shri Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi said that Delhi Police has always been in the forefront in adopting new technology and innovative practices in all spheres of its working. He thanked the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy Sources (MNRE) for extending their help in facilitating this MOU which will go a long way in making Delhi green and will be optimally used in the buildings and complexes available with Delhi Police all across the city. He hoped that this Project would be completed soon in a phased manner with active cooperation between the two agencies. Lauding the initiative of Delhi Police in adopting this green initiative in sync with the vision of Central Government, Shri Anand Kumar, Secretary, MNRE said that solar energy is economical as well as environmental friendly. He also appreciated SECI for its pivotal role in promoting the use of solar energy across the country. He emphasized that this is a land mark beginning in the capital city of the country where the primier Police Force of the Country i.e. Delhi Police has come forward to adopt this solar power technology all across its establishments in Delhi, which will not only reduce their electricity bill but also further the cause of ‘Clean Energy’ in the city. He hoped that this would be followed by other Government departments/State Police forces in time to come. Through this MOU, it is estimated that Rooftop Solar Systems of total capacity of about 3-4 Mega Watt will be implemented across various Delhi Police buildings.
