Launching an ambitious national master plan for multi-model connectivity, ‘PM GatiShakti’, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated New Exhibition Complex  (Halls 2,3,4 & 5)  of International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC)  at  Pragati Maidan, New Delhi today i.e. October 13, 2021.

While dedicating the New Exhibition complex to the nation, he hoped that the new world class exhibition infrastructure at Pragati Maidan would be immensely significant in showcasing India‘s brand excellence globally and providing fresh impetus to promote exports from MSMEs.

Earlier, Hon’ble PM was welcomed by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce and Industry along with senior government officials and he was briefed about IECC project by Shri L.C. Goyal, CMD, ITPO.  Hon’ble PM also visited an exhibition and reviewed the model of the New Exhibition Complex at Pragati Maidan,   before launching the GatiShakti plan with the press of a remote button. The ambitious plan of PM GatiShakti envisages a centralised portal to unite the infrastructural initiatives planned and initiated by as many as 16 central ministries and departments. Speaking at the event, Shri Modi also said that PM GatiShakti targets to cut logistic costs, increase cargo handling capacity and reduce the turnaround time.  The plan envisioned by the Hon’ble PM, is a campaign to lend more speed (Gati) and power (Shakti) to projects by connecting all concerned departments on one platform.  This way, the infrastructure schemes of various ministries and state governments will be designed and executed with a common vision, Shri Modi said.

Among high dignitaries present on the occasion were Hon’ble  Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Union Minister, Road Transport and Highways, Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister, Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister, Ports, Shipping & Waterways; and AYUSH, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister, Civil Aviation, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister, Railways; Communication; and Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Raj Kumar Singh, Union Minister, Power; and New and Renewable Energy, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister, Petroleum and Natural Gas; and Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Besides, the inaugural function was attended by the senior government officials including Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, Secretary Department of Commerce, Shri Anurag Jain, Secretary Department of Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade, Government of India, Shri L.C. Goyal, Chairman & Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), Shri Vibhu Nayar, Executive Director, ITPO, captains of trade and Industry, delegates and media persons.

In his welcome speech, Shri Piyush Goyal, expressed his happiness over the launching of ‘PM GatiShakti’ plan alongwith New Exhibition Complex at Pragati Maidan to accelerate the pace of progress in the country.  He pointed out that New Exhibition Complex, IECC has tremendous significance to the nation for holding G-20 Summit in 2023.  He said that Indian business fraternity would script a new story of showcasing excellence through exhibitions infrastructure such as IECC.

New Exhibition Complex (Halls 2,3,4 & 5) is an integral part of the redevelopment plan of Pragati Maidan which is a project of national importance. There are four exhibition halls comprising of exhibition area of 70,000 sq. mts.  A unique feature of the project is simultaneous construction of a 1.1Km tunnel connecting India Gate to Ring Road across Pragati Maidan and 6 underpasses to perceptibly decongest traffic in and around Pragati Maidan and improve and enhance access to Pragati Maidan and its surrounding areas.

The project has, a total built–up area of 4.2 million sq. ft, comprising an iconic, world-class ‘Convention Centre’ that can accommodate 7,000 delegates in a single format, six modern exhibition halls with an exhibition area of 1.5 lakh sqm and plenty of underground parking facilities (with capacity of around 4500 nos. vehicles and good infrastructure connectivity to encourage use of public transportation, but also allow roads to decongest fast.  It will also significantly reduce the vehicular pollution levels.

Apart from having an adjacent ‘Amphitheatre’ for the cultural events, the Convention Centre, the masterpiece of the IECC project will be a 36.4-m-tall structure on a raised platform with elliptical façade, modern architecture and unique artworks with inspiration from Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhawan, with a huge front plaza that, inter alia, includes a 7,000-sqm water body with a laser musical fountain.

The project has been implemented under the direction of the Hon’ble PM in December 2015, a comprehensive revamp plan of Pragati Maidan which was approved by Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs approved by it in January 2017 for implementation of mission mode. IECC will be a landmark and iconic spot in Delhi and a symbol of the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘New India’ in sync with India aspiring to be a global power.  Fulfilling aspirations of expanding the business fraternity, IECC will mainly cater to G2G, G2B and B2B activities.  It will add to the grandeur, stature and profile of the capital city of Delhi.
