Plan for Sports Excellence for Empowering Change : Secretary Sports at CII Score Card 2024


  • The first of its kind CII Sports Business Awards announced

The Government has recently released the draft National Sports Policy 2024 for pre-legislative consultations and feedback, aiming to foster sustainable growth in the sports ecosystem. The Policy has provisions for utilising CSR funds to organise national events and leagues, the fructification of which can promote inclusivity and drive development. Smt Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary (Sports), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports urged the participants to send suggestions on the policy, while speaking at the inauguration of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Score Card 2024 in New Delhi today.

Highlighting the Government initiatives, the Secretary said, India aims to host 2036 Olympics, and we must plan for excellence to showcase that the country is worthy for Olympics. Score Card 2024 underscores the critical need to drive towards similar efficiency and transformation curating a pathway for all stakeholders in building India a sporting hub.

Mr Chanakya Chaudhary, Chairman, CII National Committee on Sports, while delivering the welcome address, said, the CII Score Card has always been a platform for inspiring meaningful dialogue and actionable outcomes. “This year’s theme, Empowering change: Innovating Towards a Sustainable and Inclusive Sporting Future in India reflects the transformative journey we are on, where innovation and inclusivity are key to unlocking the full potential of sports as a powerful catalyst for societal growth.”

A CII and Grant Thornton Bharat Report, “The Sports Cities of India (2.0)” was released at the event. The Report highlights the capacity of Indian cities to host global events and celebrate the nation’s vibrant sports culture, contributing to the Vibrant Bharat Initiative. Evaluating the cities across parameters such as Infrastructure development, athlete program, fan engagement and their readiness to host large international events, the report highlights how India is gearing up for its ambitious bid to host the 2036 Olympics.

At the event, the CII Sports Business Awards, the first of its kind awards focused on businesses supporting the sports ecosystem recognised the excellence and innovation in the sports business sector. The Awards were given in five categories and eight recognition categories.

  • Best Organization Promoting Para-Sports: Hero MotoCorp
  • Best Emerging Sports League of the Year: Women’s Premier League (WPL)
